really love the whole design of the site, its seriously awesome! sorry in advance for how lengthy this comment will be also, lol. found this article/guide a really interesting intro to the topic of collapse (will definitely have to start checking out the reading list at the bottom), and it helped to open my eyes to some things i hadn't considered, e.g. ai's energy consumption making "buildable" energy a less viable fix for the climate. i had a couple of questions about the article/guide, but no pressure at all to answer - will make sure to do my own reading on it too haha, i get it's not meant to be comprehensive. 1. you touch on the topic of population growth (in particular the rapid growth in recent years), and its impact on consumption. however, many "developed" countries are now beginning to see a slowing of growth, with predicted future declines. do you believe that this is likely to be offset by the growth/development of the global south? that predicted numbers are misleading? or something else entirely? 2. you give cars as an example of humanity's actions that contribute towards death, which i found really interesting, especially the raw statistics of death. in the linked article "Car Harm", however, it seems to argue against collapse by suggesting that automobility is able to be reformed through a series of proposed interventions (with real life examples). do you believe that our currently highly consumptive lifestyles will prevent these interventions from being rolled out? if so, do you think that in a post-collapse society, these interventions could still have value, or that automobility should in some way be abandoned entirely? all the best, and huge thanks for making such an awesome site!

cool site! that sucks another teacher burn out, have you thought about being a teacher aide or do you just want to leave education entirely? the statistics for teacher burn out is really high sadly and many go to administration or leadership and pivot

I don't think I could bear it, at least not for a few years. Its bad in the states. I'm definitely fully disillusioned. I've been considering leaving education for half of my 8-year career, but these last two years were especially rough. AI has accelerated the decline of our education system to an incredible degree. For example, my last job was at an alternative school for struggling students. Problems like student apathy and irritability were a bit more concentrated, but the smaller class sizes did a lot to offset those issues. Unfortunately, with access to AI (our district refused to block access) the apathy got much worse. I would guess that something like 75% to 90% of the work I received from students was completed with AI. Even then, about half my students refused to do anything but the bare minimum. I tried to fight it, just as I tried to uphold our cell phone ban (each teacher takes the phone at the door only to give it back at the bell 🤣), but there's no real support from admin. Everything becomes a constant battle, and the kids know you'll eventually break. They know we won't fail them and that they'll eventually sit through enough bullshit to receive their diploma. My previous job before the alt school wasn't any better. Having two or three dedicated students a class don't make up for drowning in behaviors and large classes. I've learned from former coworkers that cheating with AI has also been rampant there in the last two years. Our education system has always been a farce, but holy hell, there's not even a hint of deniability left. I don't know, I'll eventually write up a blog detailing my experience. The general public really needs to pay attention to what is happening in our schools. They are failing us badly.
